A&H engages the public by educating, collecting, preserving, interpreting, exhibiting, and promoting art and history reflective of the American experience inspired by Maitland’s heritage and the legacy of André Smith’s Research Studio. Through our multidisciplinary collections, unique architectural environment, and inspirational programming, the Corporation stimulates thought, sparks the imagination, enriches the spirit, and fosters appreciation in art, historical studies and research, and preservation.

Brief Description of Organization's Programs & Services

The Art & History Museums - Maitland operates five cultural facilities including the Maitland Art Center, the Maitland Historical Museum, the Telephone Museum, the Waterhouse Residence Museum, and the Carpentry Shop Museum. We are proud to be a premier Central Florida cultural destination and community gathering place where guests discover something new at every visit. From professional artists working in their studios to hands on 19th century woodworking, our museums offer unparalleled opportunities for enrichment and inspiration. Programming includes art classes and workshops, hands-on history programs, interactive exhibits, special events, and more. Our two campuses include a 1937 artists’ colony with Aztec and Mayan architectural influences, a Victorian house museum, a working antique tool museum, an interactive telephone museum, and a local history museum.

Skills and talents of ideal candidate:

Willing to take responsiblity for advancing the philosophy, mission, and objectives of A&H by actively participating in Board activities, serving as a community advocate, and contributing to Board efforts to advance A&H’s interests.

Time Commitment

Monthly Board Meetings, fourth Wednesdays 5-7pm; volunteer at least 4 hours of service commitment per month, which includes time spent in board and committee meetings, advocacy and fund development responsibilities.
