Dave's House seeks a dynamic nonprofit professional to lead the organization to its next growth phase. Dave’s House’s mission is to transform lives and give hope to people with serious mental illness through creating stable homes that provide lasting recovery. Dave’s House’s vision is an end to the housing crisis for people with serious mental illness.This is a full-time contract position in a virtual office environment with flexible hours.



25%       Program Development

  • Identify and pursue housing opportunities to expand the Dave's House core program 
  • Ensure coordination of all related activities with realtors, developers, funding entities, etc.
  • Work with Board of Directors, stakeholders and community leaders to identify ongoing program needs and priorities
  • Take lead role in establishing high-quality community partnerships with like-minded organizations that are aligned with the Dave’s House mission
  • Obtain and collaborate on any legal and other agreements needed to complete partnerships including memoranda of understanding, budgets, lease addenda, etc.
  • Leverage community relationships and resources for furnishings and other housing needs
  • Monitor outcomes, houses and support services to ensure compliance with brand standards and management agreements


5%          Board and Governance

  • Collaborate with and provide support to the Board in advancing the Dave’s House mission by implementing strategic planning and nonprofit management best practices 
  • Schedule Board and Committee meetings, and prepare materials in collaboration with the Chairperson and Committee Chairs
  • Prepare, distribute and follow up on meeting action items
  • Seek interpretations and advice on legal and financial matters
  • Make recommendations and draft policies and motions
  • Develop board members to strengthen their philanthropic engagement and performance
  • Assist with Board Member selection and lead board member orientation


40%       Fund Raising

  • Develop community relationships to cultivate donors and volunteers to ensure that revenue and goals are achieved
  • Research, identify and create funding opportunities for significant growth
  • Generate revenue for short-term success and long-term viability through effective fundraising plans
  • Identify and lead the organization's signature events (Happy Days Soiree on October 12, 2019, and Insights That Inspire Leadership Seminar in February/March 2020) and other cultivation events
  • Lead in partnership with event chairs, the event planning team and volunteers
  • Facilitate and execute plans to identify, cultivate, and advance prospective major donors
  • Identify likely grant opportunities and write or collaborate on proposals
  • Ensure compliance with requirements by funders
  • Oversee the donor management system and reporting


10%       Team Leadership

  • Meet with Board Chair on a weekly basis and keep informed with regular communications
  • Identify, orient, and lead both paid and volunteer team members including event-specific contract personnel
  • Coach the team to effective performance


5%          Finance

  • Meet monthly with Finance Committee to review finances
  • Manage day-to-day financial activity
  • Manage revenue and expenses to ensure adherence to the annual budget
  • Ensure internal financial controls and manage financial reporting
  • Develop annual budget and monthly updates for Board approval


10%       Marketing and Communications

  • Serve as the Dave’s House Ambassador to the community
  • Lead brand management and work with PR, marketing and other communications experts to positively position the organization in the community, develop funders, and promote giving
  • Organize and direct agency tours to introduce and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders


5%          Administration

  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures that ensure the organization is operating in an effective, ethical and legal manner
  • Implement operational best practices


Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Non-Profit Management, Business Development, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field, Master’s preferred

Existing relationships with people of means, community influencers, and funders in Central Florida

Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major individual and institutional donors at the 5-figure level and above

Seasoned leader with proven success managing boards, staff, volunteers and external relationships

Experience planning and leading events

Experience in the healthcare or housing industry 

Passion for and commitment to the mission

Proven ability at being an effective and engaging spokesperson with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

Strong networking skills

Strong organizational and planning skills with attention to details

Computer and administrative skills sufficient to perform all essential functions including experience with donor management systems

Ability to handle confidential information appropriately

Ability to work remotely and travel as required


Required Qualifications:

Candidate must be able to pass a Level 2 check which include fingerprint-based searches of records maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, national FBI criminal history searches, and county criminal record searches through local courts or law enforcement agencies. Candidate must agree to submit to being verified against the OIG Excluded List and provide any and all necessary information to complete the verification.


Compensation is in the $51,000 to $69,000 range.
