The Salvation Army, a non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Director of Social Services in Social Services at the Orlando Metropolitan Area Command in Orlando, Florida.
 
Job Summary
Plans, directs, coordinates, supervises, and monitors the administration of all social service programs within the department for Orange County including but not limited to crisis intervention counseling, transitional living accommodations, emergency services as well as financial, food, clothing, and furniture assistance; supervises all department staff and ensures work is in compliance with established policies and procedures; develops, implements, and enhances programs to effectively meet the needs of the community; administers the department budget and secures funding for programs; writes grant proposals and ensures program operations are in compliance with contract agreements; serves as leader in the community by performing public speaking and promoting program services.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service program development and administration.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of crisis intervention counseling as well as the dynamics and issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations.
  • Knowledge of the procedures for applying for, securing and maintaining grant funding.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing social service programs.
  • Knowledge of social service resources and agencies in the community. Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices.
  • Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and evaluate subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to provide leadership in the community to promote program services.
  • Ability to perform public speaking.
  • Ability to develop, implement and enforce program policies and procedures.
  • Ability to audit client records and ensure accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside normal office hours.
  • Works evenings and weekends as directed in cases of crisis, natural disasters, program client issues, budget deadlines, grant deadlines, Christmas programs including kettle intake, special Public Relations opportunities & events, conferences, etc.
Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university and four years progressively responsible experience administering social service programs with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
 
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State driver’s license

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical computations. Ability to perform public speaking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
 
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
