Did you know that only 27% of nonprofits have a succession plan in place? Whether a transition occurs due to an unexpected vacancy on the staff or board, or the anticipated transition of a long-tenured leader, a deliberate and thoughtful plan will help a nonprofit weather the inevitable challenges of leadership transition. Participants will work through the necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition for expected and unexpected transitions. This workshop is ideal for current or interim executive directors, board members, and/or staff involved in the hiring process. 

Participants will learn:

  • The role of the board and executive director in succession planning
  • How to identify the leadership qualities needed to navigate a transition and if an interim leader is required
  • How to create a timeline, position description, compensation package, search, onboarding process, and annual review process to recruit and retain the next leader of the organization
  • How to effectively communicate a leadership transition before, during, and after the transition to the community, stakeholders, and staff

Cost: $105 members, $210 non-members

Michelle Turman, MA, CFRE is the CEO of Catalyst Consulting Services whose mission is to facilitate positive change in the areas of executive searches, organizational management, and fundraising. With over twenty-four years of nonprofit experience, Michelle established Catalyst Consulting Services and has been responsible for increasing the impact and best practices of nonprofit organizations she serves and has raised over $60 million for the Tampa Bay community through her professional and personal philanthropic efforts.

In addition to facilitating change nationally and in the Tampa Bay area, Michelle’s community service has included leadership roles on the boards of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, Suncoast Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Centre Club’s Philanthropy Committee, Charitable Gift Planners of Tampa Bay, Donate Life America, Leadership Pinellas, the South Tampa Y and University of South Florida’s Women in Leadership & Philanthropy, the Women’s Exchange (WE), and Working Women of Tampa Bay Foundation.
