Strategic planning is a process of intentionally choosing a desired future and developing a document approach to achieve that vision. Learn to excite your board and staff by understanding how to create a dynamic plan for your organization. Whether you are you getting ready to tackle a new strategic plan or updating your existing plan, this session is for you!

As a participant, you will learn:

  • Essential steps of the planning process, such as information gathering, critical issue identification, organizational analysis, and the importance of vision, mission, values, goals and strategies. 
  • The role of the CEO, board of directors and staff  in the plan creation and execution.
  • The importance of stakeholders’ input.
  • How to create specific, measurable objectives and action steps to insure that your organization achieves its desired future.
  • Benefits of strategic planning, such as:
  • Use as a management tool
  • Clear direction for the organization
  • Improved service delivery and client interaction
  • Increased community participation
  • Effective and focused fundraising
Cost: $80 members, $160 non-members

Instructor: Jim Moody, Program Manager, Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership

Jim Moody is the Program Manager for the Edyth Bush Institute staff, as a Program Manager, Jim is responsible for custom training and education. This includes working with new and existing clients to coordinate specialized instruction in the nonprofit specialty areas of board governance, fundraising, leadership, volunteer management and more.

Jim has 10 years of senior level management experience in nonprofit management, both in Florida and New York. His professional areas of expertise include operations, board development, fundraising, and leading turnaround / start-up organizations.  Jim graduated from Northeastern Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Theology. He also has two Bachelor of Science Degrees; in Administrative Management and Community Leadership & Development. He is also a graduate of Cornell University’s Leadership Institute for Non-Profit Executives.      

Jim served for 6 years on a public school Board of Education and with the New York Department of Education, State Rehabilitation Council. When not working, Jim enjoys spending time with his family and church, reading, and watching baseball.
