Fundamentals of Successful Fundraising for Nonprofits | Orlando, Florida | Winter Park

Join us for four-days of back-to back training about the core building blocks for fundraising success.

Your diversified fundraising strategy includes annual fund, direct mail, special events, major gifts, online solicitations, donor stewardship and cultivation, endowments, and more.  

Each day will be packed with “what works” instruction, group facilitation, and the opportunity to look at what it means for your organization.

You and your cohort will answer questions like:

  • Is our organization really ready to fundraise?
  • What is in a strong case for support?
  • How do we fundraise? Which vehicles and strategies should we use?
  • What about online fundraising?
  • How do I know when my donor is ready to give a major gift? What is a major gift?
  • Who should be on my fundraising team?
  • What kinds of technology, database, and research should I use?
  • How can I create a strategic stewardship plan?

With practical nonprofit examples, speakers, and dynamic instruction, garner what you need to support your mission with sustainable funding.

As a result of this course, you will:
  • Understand the components of an ethical, comprehensive, and productive development program.
  • Emerge with a comprehensive understanding of the various vehicles and methods of fundraising.
  • Recognize and organize a layered approach to fundraising, which provides for multiple needs and markets.
  • Know better how to work with volunteers, Boards, and other colleagues.
  • Become a more effective representative of the development perspective within his/her workplace.

Instructors:

  Kate Martin is an Instructor and Training Consultant for the Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership at the Crummer Graduate School of Business of Rollins College. She has years of experience working with nonprofit organizations, including serving as the Senior Director of Development for UCP of Central Florida. Her experience includes board governance; training & management of staff, board, and volunteers; foundation & corporate support; special events; and legislative advocacy. Kate also has 14 years of legal experience as an attorney who formerly practiced in the areas of Business Law; Estate Planning and Administration; Charitable Trusts, Charitable Gifts, and Foundations. She serves the community as a Board Member of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, and a member and former Board Member of The Junior League of Greater Orlando.  She also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation where she currently serves on the Development and Scholarship Committees.  Kate holds a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Florida, and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management and a Certificate in Volunteer Management from the Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership.  She is also a member of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning and the Association for Fundraising Professionals.

 

 

Karen Revels is the Senior Manager of Philanthropy at the Edyth Bush Institute overseeing the Annual Philanthropy Conference, symposiums, research projects, and The Donors Forum of Central Florida.  In addition, she oversees the Leadership Certificate and executive transition and advanced fundraising programs and is an instructor for many Institute workshops.

Karen has more than 17 years of nonprofit management and fundraising experience in roles as Executive Director with The American Cancer Society and the International Fibrodisplaysia Ossificans Progressiva Association; and as Development Director with The Jewish Community Center and the Institute of Internal Auditors. In addition, she currently serves as President of the Lake Eola Charter School PTSA and founded the Howard Middle School Foundation, most recently serving as President; served as a foster parent; and regularly volunteers with Trinity Lutheran School, and First Presbyterian Orlando. 

She was awarded the Women of Distinction Award from the Citrus Council of Girl Scouts, is a graduate of Leadership Orlando Class 69 and Leadership Brevard Class 2005.  She received both a B.S. in Public Administration and Masters of Science in Management from the University of Central Florida.
