Reports to Executive Director, and works in partnership with Regional Development Director

Position Summary: The Director of Development creates and leads all elements of philanthropy and fundraising, along with all promotional aspects and avenues for the organization. In the role of Director of Development for United Against Poverty, this position is directly responsible for fundraising, financial objectives and management of staff in the Development department. As part of the senior management team, the Director of Development is responsible for the management and supervision of Donor Relations Coordinator and Treasure Coast Development Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee major gifts, special events, grants, corporate sponsorship and board giving to meet and exceed the annual fund goal established by the organization’s leadership team
  • Engage and solicit gifts from top-tier donors by proactively identifying, recruiting, researching, qualifying, and cultivating
  • Manage relationships with approximately 150 top-tier donors; soliciting annual gifts and shepherding these very important donors
  • Following the moves management system, strategize and record all contacts to ensure positive and purposeful donor relations efforts
  • Collaborate regarding prospective activities with the ED and board of directors
  • Lead campaigns that help UP secure the needed resources to expand its facilities and programs
  • Make regular speaking engagements to build awareness about the mission of United Against Poverty with civic clubs and community groups
  • Provide leadership in developing organization, programs, fundraising and financial plans with the local Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the ED and the Board of Directors
  • Prepares statistical and narrative reports; enters and retrieves data on Donor Pro; maintain appropriate records utilizing databases; maintain accurate notes
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations in cooperation and in conjunction with the Regional Programs Director where appropriate
  • Plan, coordinate and ensure implementation of strategies to attract, develop and retain donors and fundraising volunteers to support the organization and meet the Development Department fundraising goals
  •  In conjunction with the internal Development staff, outside vendors and other agencies as needed: initiate, develop, coordinate, implement and distribute annual reports, marketing, advertising, public relations, media strategies and campaigns and facilitation of all internet and social media avenues to promote the organization.
  • Direct the monthly Development Committee meetings and provide marketing, media and donor activity reports
  • Administer the Development Department’s annual operating budgets
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards to donors and assure compliance with the code of ethics, principles and standards of professional conduct

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in fundraising and management
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, CFRE preferred
  • Exceptional written and oral communication abilities
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Capable of exceling in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Knowledge of the Indian River Community strongly desired
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary to attend meetings, fundraising or programmatic events.
