Strategic planning is a process of intentionally choosing a desired future and developing a document approach to achieve that vision. Learn to excite your board and staff by being a part of creating a dynamic plan for the organization. Whether you are you getting ready to tackle a new strategic plan or reviewing and updating your existing plan, this session is for you.

You will learn:

  • Essential steps of a strategic planning process including: gathering information, identifying critical issues, analysis, the role of vision, mission, values, goals, strategies, and objectives/action steps in successful planning

Instructor: Robert Kinney, Consultant

Robert KinneyRobert J. Kinney has served for more than ten years as a consultant to nonprofit organizations with a focus on strategic planning and board development. After a 12-year career at Walt Disney World Co. in the areas of Community Relations and Marketing, Kinney started his nonprofit career as executive director at Give Kids The World, a world-class resort in Kissimmee dedicated to fulfilling the Disney wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. In December of 1994, he was hired to start a pivotal chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Central & Northern Florida and enjoyed the next 9 years developing that organization to become one of the region’s prominent charities.

Kinney has also served several years as Area Executive Director for the American Cancer Society and led Habitat for Humanity in Seminole County as it doubled its capacity in building affordable housing for local low income families. Kinney’s education was directed in the field of music and includes study at the Juilliard School in New York. For the past twenty years, he has served on numerous boards of arts and child welfare organizations and he currently serves on the City of Sanford Historic Preservation Board. He is a past president of the Central Florida chapter of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals and also serves on the Seminole YouthBuild board and the Seminole County Committee on Aging. As an accomplished trainer and nonprofit consultant, Kinney has extended his nonprofit and training expertise to include facilitation of board retreats for many charitable organizations with a focus of helping them move to the next level of their growth. Robert Kinney has lived in a historic Sanford, Florida house for the past 15 years and enjoys living in that community of great neighbors and a fascinating history. He has done extensive research on the history of his great old house and is currently collaborating on a book about the prominent Central Florida architect from the 1920’s who designed his home.
