Raising money in a small shop can often feel like juggling while wearing a blindfold!  You may feel like you never know what’s coming next and how heavy the task will be.  Breathe.  Participants will learn what priorities and tasks should be juggled in order to maximize success and best practices and tips to keep you moving your mission forward.

Class attendees will learn:

  • Strategic assessment of different development techniques to maximize success and diversify your funding sources
  • Strategies to implement best practices to yield highest return on time and resources  
  • How to leverage volunteers and in-kind support to expand your capacity

Cost: $160 members, $320 nonmembers

Instructor: Julie Wright, Principal, J. Wright & Co.

Julie Wright is a comprehensive development professional with a passion for connecting inspired people to a fulfilling purpose. With more than 16 years in the non-profit world, she has raised millions of dollars and through this, she has found her professional purpose in life.
Fundraising was not something that Julie set out to do. From a young age, she wanted to be journalist and followed the education and career path to fulfill that dream. After graduation from Florida State University, Julie worked as a television news producer in two media markets, Jacksonville and Orlando, her hometown. A friend encouraged her to apply for a Director of Development position at Easter Seals Florida.

It was at Easter Seals that Julie grew to love the non-profit world; the stress of budget season, the anxiety of an ask and the thrill of a joyful “yes!” Throughout her 12 years at Easter Seals, Julie learned nearly every technique in comprehensive development, managed programs and services for people with disabilities and became a valued member of the senior management team as the Senior Vice President of Development. The most meaningful part of her professional career came from growing up within the organization alongside dedicated volunteers and awe-inspiring clients and families. In 2013, Julie accepted a position with Nemours Children’s Hospital, where she had the privilege of working alongside some of the top physician leaders in the country. This opportunity afforded Julie the opportunity to learn another sector of non-profit community.

Julie has extensive experience in board and staff coaching; major gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; grant writing and non-profit operations. Those who know Julie will say that she’s never met a stranger; a trait that has made her a successful fundraiser.

Her professional and personal experiences led her to open J. Wright & Co. Julie has a strong belief in streamlining processes and working efficiently to have the largest impact on an organization. Her proficiencies in relationship building, organizational and board development; and matching motivation to mission bring a fresh outlook to her client, allowing them to do what they do best – fulfill their missions. She has worked with organizations including: OCA, Opportunity Community Ability, United Arts, Garden Theatre, Jewish Community Center, Conductive Education Center of Orlando and Valencia Foundation.

Julie enjoys meeting new people, reading and cooking, and spending time with her husband, Cliff, and their sons, Will and Griffin.
