The nonprofit sector needs strong leadership talent to meet the many and ever growing demands of our sector. Therefore, a steady supply of leaders is critical. The Certificate in Leadership Practice is designed for nonprofit professionals who want to become respected leaders in their field. During this leadership immersion experience you will learn to maximize your potential and help you overcome hindrances to success. The program will be facilitated by Karen Revels, MSM with a variety of different instructors doing many of the segments of the program. The program will cover - The Art of Feedback, Leading in an Inclusive Environment, Unleashing your Leadership Potential through the Art of Listening, Becoming a Conflict Capable Leader, Overcoming Personal Bias, Leadership in the Crucible of Work and Emotional Intelligence.
You will engage in four interactive sessions that help you identify and understand your own leadership style. It will challenge you to leverage your personal strengths. You will complete self-assessments and feedback instruments that include: Personal Values Questionnaire, DiSC Profile, EQI Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory, and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict MODE Instrument. Participants will receive a copy of the following books: The Crucible Leader by Sandy Shugart, Listening Pays by Rick Bommelji, Monday Morning Leadership by David Cottrell.
Only $840 with scholarship! Scholarships are available to Edyth Bush Institute member organizations. Please complete the Scholarship Application in lieu of the online registration. Scholarships for the Certificate in Leadership Practice will not count toward an organization's $500 scholarship threshold. For information about becoming a member, click here.
The fee is $1,200 for members and $1,850 for nonmembers, inclusive of all training materials, assessments, books, and personal development coaching. Scholarships are available to Edyth Bush Institute member organizations.
Session dates and times:
Active participation is expected. The Certificate in Leadership Practice involves the completion of out-of-session reading and assignments. A Certificate will only be awarded to those who complete all of the required assignments and attend all four sessions in their entirety.

The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation is offering the Karen Plunkett Memorial Scholarship for the Edyth Bush Institute’s Certificate in Leadership Practice program. The scholarship is awarded annually to a public relations or communications professional in Orange, Osceola, Seminole or Lake County. Preference is given to an individual who is involved in the community or who has connection with a nonprofit organization. The scholarship valued at $1,200 is awarded on a competitive basis to one individual.
Karen Plunkett specialized in public relations and represented law and accounting firms in the Orlando area. Among her public relations friends, she was known for her gracious style combined with a backbone of steel. She became president of the Florida Public Relations Association and earned the group's Dillon Award for lifetime achievement. For 15 years, she also taught public relations courses at Rollins College and the University of Central Florida, where she earned her master's degree.
Jerry Hilbrich, chairman of the board at the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation, said, “The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation would like Karen's legacy to live on and this scholarship will honor her life as a public relations professional and as a distinguished community volunteer, teacher and mentor."
