Certificate in Leadership Practice

What did you want to be when you grew up? An astronaut? A veterinarian? A sports star?  A teacher? At some point however, your heart guided you toward the most meaningful work of all, working in the nonprofit sector. Just like other professions, working for a nonprofit means that you need to constantly improve your skills if you want to succeed.

The Certificate in Leadership Practice is designed for nonprofit professionals who want to become respected leaders in their field. During this leadership immersion experience you will develop a road map to maximize your potential and help you overcome hindrances to success.

Certificate in Leadership Practice

You will:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of your own leadership style through self-assessment
  • Apply and integrate leadership concepts into a variety of real-life situations
  • Understand the link between leadership and power, motivation and trust
  • Think critically about innovative leadership styles
  • Understand organization dynamics and the role leaders play at all levels
  • Become a more effective leader within your current, or future leadership positions

You will engage in four interactive sessions that help you identify and understand your own leadership style. It will challenge you to leverage your personal strengths. You will complete self-assessments and feedback instruments that include: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® Assessment (MBTI®), DiSC Profile, Leadership Profile 360 Instrument, Thomas-Kilmann Conflict MODE Instrument, and a Personal Leadership Action Plan.

Only $735 with scholarship! Scholarships are available to Philanthropy Center member organizations. Please complete the Scholarship Application in lieu of the online registration. For information about becoming a member, click here.

The fee is $1,050 for members and nonmembers, inclusive of all training materials, assessments, books, and personal development coaching. Scholarships are available to Edyth Bush Institute member organizations.

Active participation is expected. The Certificate in Leadership Practice involves the completion of out-of-session reading and assignments. A Certificate will only be awarded to those who complete all of the required assignments and attend all four sessions in their entirety.

Karen Plunkett Memorial Scholarship Application

The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation is offering the Karen Plunkett Memorial Scholarship for the Edyth Bush Institute’s Certificate in Leadership Practice program. The scholarship is awarded annually to a public relations or communications professional in Orange, Osceola, Seminole or Lake County. Preference is given to an individual who is involved in the community or who has connection with a nonprofit organization. The scholarship valued at $1,050 is awarded on a competitive basis to one individual.

 

Karen Plunkett specialized in public relations and represented law and accounting firms in the Orlando area. Among her public relations friends, she was known for her gracious style combined with a backbone of steel. She became president of the Florida Public Relations Association and earned the group's Dillon Award for lifetime achievement. For 15 years, she also taught public relations courses at Rollins College and the University of Central Florida, where she earned her master's degree.

 

Jerry Hilbrich, chairman of the board at the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation, said, “The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation would like Karen's legacy to live on and this scholarship will honor her life as a public relations professional and as a distinguished community volunteer, teacher and mentor."


One, fully-paid scholarship will be awarded annually to a public relations or communications professional through the generous support of the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation in memory of
Karen Plunkett, APR.  The Certificate in Leadership Practice involves the completion of outside reading and assignments and will only be awarded to those who complete the assignments and attend all four sessions in their entirety.  The scholarship recipient must complete the program in full or the value of the scholarship ($1,050) must be paid to the Edyth Bush Institute.

Criteria to apply for Karen Plunkett Memorial Scholarship:

  • Individual must work in marketing, public relations or a related communications field.
  • Preference will be given to individuals currently working at a nonprofit organization, or serving a nonprofit organization in some capacity (i.e. board of directors, key volunteer, other).
  • Only individuals working in Orange, Osceola, Lake and Seminole counties are eligible.
