Bringing Training to Your Board

Bringing Training to Your Board

A nonprofit is only as strong as its backbone, and the backbone of any nonprofit organization is its board of directors. Ideally composed of dedicated, passionate influencers who believe in your mission, your board is an essential part of any nonprofit's success. But even the strongest backbone needs support.

One of the most critical areas for any organization's leadership is understanding the importance of effective board governance. Training in board governance can:

  • Enable your board to operate more effectively;
  • Enhance the role and efficacy of fundraising;
  • Avoid detrimental and costly risks; and,
  • Build successful nonprofits that fulfill their missions.

The Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership  understands that board members generously donate their time, wisdom and passion to nonprofits. The key to translating that passion into results is empowering your board with the right tools to turn that commitment into efficiency, efficacy, and success.

Nonprofits now have a simple, convenient way to provide their boards with the tools they need. Bring the Edyth Bush Institute's highly-qualified, experienced and knowledgeable team to attend  board meetings for any or all of these four, two-hour modules:

1.      Roles and Responsibilities of Nonprofit Boards. This module gives your board members the chance to review the legal duties and ten responsibilities of board members. They will have a chance to discuss the separate roles of board and staff, and begin a plan of action to improve their governance.

2.      Current Trends Affecting Boards. In this module, board members will learn about changing demographics, charity watchdog groups, the growing era of accountability, the coming leadership crisis, and how technology can greatly enhance the work of the board.

3.      The Board's Role in Fundraising. Your board plays a critical role in the cultivation of new donors and stewardship of existing ones. This module will train board members to recognize their role and responsibility in order to ensure sustainable funding for your mission.

4.      Recruitment and Retention of Board Members. In order to identify strategies that will help find and keep good board members, it's important for the board to assess its current membership. This module will train your board on the importance of orientation, holding effective meetings, and building an efficient board that attracts new membership.
